One of a lot of good scenes in Jerry Seinfeld:
Jerry and Kramer go to a movie and sit with an empty seat in between as a buffer when some other guy who Jerry knows happens to be around them looking for seats.
Jerry : Hey Kramer, pretend that we are talking.
Kramer: But we are talking!
Jerry: Yeah, pretend that we are talking something important.
Kramer: So, I had to Kill that guy! and the police are still looking for me!
Jerry: Oh, yeah!
